thankful tuesday

Happy Thanksgiving week! I'm back with three simple things of thanks...beautiful moments among the ordinary, every Tuesday from me to you. As you are looking forward to a day full of family, food, and maybe some retail shopping, what are YOU thankful for?

"Not what we say about our blessings, but how we use them, is the true measure of our thanksgiving." -W.T. Purkiser

one: a bonus day with my little bit. She was up sick last night, so I stayed home with her today, and I'm loving all the extra squeezes I get to get in when I should be at work. (Plus, she's feeling better-double thanks!)

two: Furry rain boots on a cold and rainy day. Thank you Costco.

three: moments of peace and a fur blanket.

thankful tuesdays

Three simple things of thanks...beautiful moments among the ordinary every Tuesday from me to you.

"It is not happy people who are thankful, it is thankful people who are happy." -Unknown

one: A beautiful weekend celebrating the littlest sis' birthday in Winston-Salem. {Hello, sir in the back}.

two: A beautiful 70 degree mini-break to thaw out from the cold. And a cooperative fat dog who lets a baby bury her in leaves.

three: imagination, through the eyes of a one year old. A cabinet is a hiding spot, a colander is a kaleidoscope, and the stairs make an excellent tummy slide. Seeing the world through her little eyes is amazing and hilarious.

Ten on ten...November

Man...I missed a couple of months since April's ten on ten.  Let's just say I've been busy. Ok? Ok.

Today I am linking up with A Little Bit of Sunshine to find the beautiful moments among the ordinary. The prompt this month is A Full Harvest; and as I watch sweet Lucy grow into the little person she is becoming, I can't help but acknowledge how full my heart is, even when a tantrum is involved, and how much we are encouraging her precious little heart to be a woman of noble character.

Morning peek-a-boos and festive pjs.

A little target run (still in our pjs). Don't judge.

Getting my pretty on...for church.

A little Jersey Mike's pit stop to pick up sandwiches for lunch.

This girl LOVES to do laundry.

Anatomy lessons with Papa. "Ears"

3 incredible babysitters...all at once! We are so lucky.

Bedtime for baby and this wrinkly girl.

Wine time.

And a little Dirty Dancing to cap off the night. #nobodyputsbabyinacorner

Life lately in pictures

So, these past two weeks were cra-crazy. And I completely intended to post sweet halloween pics, and our fun weekend. And now....more time has passed.

So I will just catch you up with pictures instead!

We had a little gathering before trick-or-treating with candy corn shaped cheese, Pioneer Woman's candy corn popcorn balls, and spiked cider {for the adults}. We're going to have to continue this tradition every year,it was great!

Tow-mater and the Princess checking out each other's costumes...

She had the whole Trick-or-treating thing down.

Happy Fall Y'all!

Thankful Tuesday

Today...when I am lacking in sleep and have just had a rough day,  I will choose joy.

"Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body." Proverbs 16:24 (ESV)

1.  Parks. Seeing a park through your child's eyes is a picture of pure joy.

2. Halloween! The spooky day hasn't arrived yet, but all of the preparations from decorating to fall festivals leaves me full of festiveness.

3. Pumpkin, pumpkin everywhere. As in, pumpkin caramel froyo with Heath bar on top. Yes, please.

Thankful Tuesday

Have you ever read Ann Voscamp's 1000 Little Gifts? I've read about 50% of it. She is a good writer, y'all, don't get me wrong, it's just very....literary.

And in my free time, I like to stick reading things that don't make my brain hurt. But, I will say, the book has a beautiful premise. Every day, she wrote down 3 things (mundane to major) that she was thankful for.

And it totally transformed her perspective on life. Instead of focusing on what was lacking, it focused on the blessings that lay right in front of her.

So, here I'll be, every Tuesday, challenging you to list 3 things you are thankful for today.

"Perhaps it takes a purer faith to praise God for unrealized blessings than for those we once enjoyed or those we enjoy now." A.W. Tozer

1. Loving childcare. Whether at my friend Jamie's house or daycare days, I am thankful that Lucy is loved when she is not in our hands. { This picture was at a fall festival at daycare last week!}

2. Boot weather.

3. Costume parties. Who doesn't love to dress up and pretend you are someone/something else for a day!

Falling for Pumpkins

In our quest to find the perfect pumpkins this year, we went to Hillridge Farms a couple of weekends ago where we celebrated my sister's birthday.

For $10,  you get a hayride and a pumpkin, along with entry to the giant slide, corn pit, mini zoo, mazes and hay jumps.

It's like the state fair sans all the crazy people, and much, much cheaper.

Lucy loved the pumpkins. She wanted to touch each and every one.

It is absolutely hilarious to try and get 5 children to look and smile at you. We got one to look and smile, success!

They had pig, duck and goat races too. (After the animals ran by, Lucy was equally as interested in the rocks at her feet.)

At first, I was a little apprehensive about the corn pit.

All I could imagine were fistfuls of hard corn being shoved in her little mouth. So, I had to join her in the giant pit of corn.
She was in corn-heaven and didn't try to eat a single kernel.

And, I have to admit, it was quite relaxing being surrounded by silky kernels of corn.
She also found a chicken she wanted to take home...
We love starting new family traditions, and will definitely be back every fall!
